S.C. Textile Plant To Close With 193 Jobs Lost

A Mohawk Industries plant will be shuttered because the company claims it will be able to operate one facility at a higher capacity.

CALHOUN FALLS, S.C. (AP) — A Mohawk Industries textile plant in Calhoun Falls is closing, with its 193 workers losing their jobs.

The Index-Journal of Greenwood reported Wednesday (https://bit.ly/NIVyCc ) that the Rocky Creek Facility is closing Sept. 25. The plant is 25 miles west of Greenwood.

Workers processed yarn for rugs and carpets.

Human resources manager Terry Blackstone says retraining and career assistance will be available for the workers for two months.

Blackstone says operations at Rocky Creek are being transferred to a plant in Bennettsville.

The official says the company will be able to operate one facility at a higher capacity.
