Federal investigators have cited International Coal Group for a violation they say contributed to the death of a miner at a southern West Virginia mine.

The Mine Safety and Health Administration says 28-year-old John King was standing too close to a piece of heavy equipment when he was crushed against the wall of ICG's Beckley Pocahontas mine near Eccles. An accident report issued Thursday says that violated the mine's roof control plan.

King died about 12 hours after the April 22 accident.

Scott Depot-based ICG had no immediate comment. But the report says ICG retrained mine employees about the dangers of working close to heavy equipment. The mine also has a new policy of suspending or firing miners who violate rules for working around heavy equipment.
