A closed manufacturing plant in southeastern Michigan that almost became a bakery soon could be cooking up an alternative.
The deadline is Friday to apply for part of $13 million in federal economic stimulus bonds allotted to Lenawee County. The only applicant so far is an unidentified company that aims to use the former Tecumseh Products Co. plant to make solar panels.
It's welcome news in Tecumseh, where the refrigerator parts plant closed in 2008. And it's even more promising since plans to make snack foods in the building fell through.
Tecumseh Economic Development Director Paula Holtz tells The Daily Telegram of Adrian it's early but officials hope the development comes through.
The Recovery Zone Facility Bonds are designed to stimulate job growth and investment.
