Unilever: Jonesboro Plant To Stay Open

A hair care products plant in Jonesboro that employs 400 people will keep its doors open, Unilever said.

JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) -- A hair care products plant in Jonesboro that employs 400 people will keep its doors open.

The former Alberto Culver plant is now owned by Unilever, which bought Alberto Culver in May. Jonesboro plant manager Robb Vrbicek told The Jonesboro Sun (http://bit.ly/mQvDGC ) on Wednesday that Unilever reviewed its new operations and factory will keep producing.

The $64 million plant opened in 2008 with 200 employees, but it was expanded and the workforce doubled. Vrbicek says two other plants elsewhere are to be shut down.

Unilever's Jonesboro plant produces brands that include TRESemme, Nexxus, Noxzema, St. Ives, Just for Me, Soft & Beautiful and Motions.

Vrbicek says the company's ethnic hair care products are made exclusively in Jonesboro.
