Toshiba's Chip Plants To Give Up Summer Vacation

The electronics giant said it will continue operation at plants in Yokkaichi in Mie Prefecture, Taishi in Hyogo Prefecture and Oita in Oita Prefecture.

TOKYO, Aug. 8 (Kyodo) -- Toshiba Corp. said Monday three of its semiconductor plants in Japan will give up summer vacation plans later this month for their workers and keep operating, due to brisk demand especially for digital home electronics.

The electronics giant said it will continue operation at plants in Yokkaichi in Mie Prefecture, Taishi in Hyogo Prefecture and Oita in Oita Prefecture. The plants had planned to take a break for four to 10 days in August.

Meanwhile, the company will suspend operations for five days from Friday at its plant in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, which mainly manufactures optical semiconductors used for vehicles.
