Northrop Says Navy Software Test A Success

Northrop Grumman Corp. said Tuesday it successfully demonstrated software to operate an unmanned aircraft from the deck of an aircraft carrier.

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Northrop Grumman Corp. said Tuesday it successfully demonstrated software to operate an unmanned aircraft from the deck of an aircraft carrier.

The test took place Saturday on the USS Dwight D Eisenhower in the western Atlantic.

The company said it and the Navy carried out several launches and recoveries of a manned plane that was equipped with navigation-control software for the X-47B unmanned vehicle. The Navy said the event was a key step toward landing the X-47B on a carrier deck in 2013.
