The owner of a construction company where a teenage worker was killed by burning asphalt is facing more than two dozen new charges.

Gerald Shepell is charged with 29 counts under the Workplace Health and Safety Act.

In July 2008, a 15-year-old boy working for Interlake Paving was buried in asphalt while working in Stony Mountain.

Court documents show among the charges are eight counts of failing to ensure the safety, health, and welfare of workers.

Shepell was earlier charged under the province's Employment Standards Code for allegedly employing the teen and another Stony Mountain youth in 2008.

His next court appearance is Oct. 7.
