PERU, Ind. (AP) -- An aircraft maintenance company plans to start operations at a former Air Force base in northern Indiana and possibly hire 200 people.
Officials of Texas-based Dean Baldwin Painting signed a 29-year lease deal last week with Miami County officials for hangar space in the Grissom Aeroplex at what is now Grissom Air Reserve Base near the city of Peru.
Company CEO Barbara Baldwin tells The Peru Tribune that it has been considering an expansion for some time and that the Grissom site is a perfect fit.
The Kokomo Tribune reports county officials have obtained nearly $7.5 million in federal grants and loans to pay for a hangar expansion that will accommodate the new tenant. The company works for several major airlines, including United, US Airways and Air Canada.
