Italian Prosecutors Want Jail For ThyssenKrupp Exec

Prosecutors are asking a court to send a ThyssenKrupp executive to jail for 16 1/2 years for a plant blaze that killed seven workers in 2007.

MILAN (AP) -- Prosecutors are asking a court to send a ThyssenKrupp executive to jail for 16 1/2 years for a plant blaze that killed seven workers in 2007.

The Italian news agency ANSA said prosecutors asked the court Tuesday for a manslaughter conviction against Harald Espenhahn, ThyssenKrupp's CEO in Italy.

The blaze at the German steelmaker's plant in the northern Italian industrial city prompted widespread calls in the nation for improved safety in the workplace.

One worker died immediately in the fire, while the other six died in the hospital later.
