Blue Bird To Close Georgia Bus Plant

FORT VALLEY, Ga. (AP) -- Blue Bird Corp. says it will close its bus plant in Lafayette Aug. 30, putting about 350 people out of work.

Blue Bird officials told plant workers Thursday that the Walker County plant's operations will be moved to the company's Fort Valley headquarters.

The bus maker has operated its LaFayette plant since 1988.

The company said it will provide severance and continued benefits to laid-off workers and assistance with unemployment benefits.
