Biotech Firm To Build Plant In Georgia

Seattle-based Dendreon Corporation could bring hundreds of jobs to the Atlanta region with its planned $70 million manufacturing facility to produce a cancer drug.

ATLANTA (AP) -- A biotechnology company is planning a $70 million manufacturing facility that could bring hundreds of jobs to the Atlanta region.

Seattle-based Dendreon Corporation will manufacture Provenge, a treatment for patients with advanced prostate cancer, in the planned Union City plant.

Dendreon plans to locate in a 160,000-square-foot manufacturing facility at the Majestic Airport Center in South Fulton County.

Provenge is currently under review by the FDA. The plant is expected to open after the drug gets approval.

Gov. Sonny Perdue says the 2009 BIO International Convention in May helped introduce the company to Georgia's business assets.
