AstenJohnson To Close Georgia Plant

Charleston, S.C.- based company that makes products used in paper-making says it will close its Jonesboro plant in July.

JONESBORO, Ga. (AP) -- AstenJohnson, a Charleston, S.C.- based company that makes products used in paper-making, says it will close its Jonesboro plant in July.

Spokeswoman Rebecca Harper says the paper industry's continued decline has forced the company to cut production. She says most of the 39 employees that will lose their jobs at the press fabric plant are manufacturing workers.

AstenJohnson built its first Jonesboro factory in 1958. Harper says one plant closed in 2000 and another in 2003.

Harper says AstenJohnson still has seven factories in North America, two in Europe and one in China.
