Fire Destroys Log Home Maker's Facilities

A machine shop, offices and cooking oil-powered sawmill went up in smoke at Mountain Ridge Wood Products.

SUNBURY, Pa. (AP) — Fire has wrecked a Northumberland County company that manufactures log homes.

Flames were reported just after midnight Tuesday at Mountain Ridge Wood Products in Point Township.

Mountain Ridge operates a sawmill along Hookies Road. The building, including a machine shop and the company's offices, was destroyed.

An employee and a neighbor both told WNEP-TV that an explosion preceded the fire.

The company has been using cooking oil to power the sawmill, but it's not known if that played a role in the fire. A state police fire marshal has been called in to help look for the cause of the blaze.

Several firefighters are reported to have suffered minor injuries.
