Machinists Overwhelmingly OK United Tech Contract

WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. (AP) -- Workers at the reorganized aerospace business of United Technologies Corp. have overwhelmingly ratified a three-year contract that raises pay and pensions and boosts health insurance payments.

Members of Machinists Local 743 at UTC Aerospace Systems in Windsor Locks voted 583-16 on Sunday to approve the contract.

Union Local President Tony Walter said union members won an annual 2.5 percent raise and a $2,000 signing bonus. Pensions will be increased by $7 per month for each year of service and employee contributions to health insurance coverage will increase by as much as $12 a week. He says union officials and members are ecstatic with the new agreement.

A spokeswoman said the company would not comment.

The Charlotte, N.C., division was created last year after United Technologies' $18.4 billion purchase of aerospace parts maker Goodrich Corp.
