MARION, Ill. (AP) — A Japan-based maker of auto components says its roughly $15 million planned expansion of a southern Illinois plant will add 80 jobs.

Aisin Electronics Illinois joined regional officials in breaking ground this week on the 108-square-foot Marion project the company expects to be completed early next year.

The added space will be adjacent to the company's existing 57,600-square-foot site.

With 236 workers in Marion, Aisin makes electronic control units and sensors for the automotive industry, including parts for Honda and Chrysler.

The state is providing a $250,000 grant for the expansion.
