Colt, UAW Agree To New Contract

Firearms maker Colt Defense LLC and one of its unions announced Tuesday that they've reached a new two-year labor agreement.

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- Firearms maker Colt Defense LLC and one of its unions announced Tuesday that they've reached a new two-year labor agreement.

The contract with the United Auto Workers Local 376 replaces a contract that expired March 31. Terms of the new agreement were not disclosed.

Colt and the union have been negotiating since February and presented an offer to the union on Saturday, which members ratified Monday.

The union said the agreement helped avoid a strike and allowed over 250 workers to return to work Monday after a weekend of uncertainty.

Colt has manufacturing facilities in West Hartford, Conn., and Canada. A company representative was not immediately available to comment.
