WICHITA, Kan. (AP) -- Engineers and technical workers at Spirit Aerosystems have voted to reject the company's contract offer.
Members of the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace voted Thursday on a 9 1/2-year contract proposal. A strike vote was not on the ballot.
The Wichita Eagle reports that union members rejected the offer by a vote of 684 to 25.
The union had urged its members to turn down the offer. It wants to resume negotiations instead.
Union officials say the contract would have increased the cost of health insurance, capped salary pools and provided a lower bonus plan than other salaried employees.
Spirit officials contend the offer was fair and would help keep the company healthy.
SPEEA represents about 2,300 professional and technical workers at the Wichita plant.
