Chrysler To Create 270 Jobs In Michigan

Automaker plans to spend $114 million to reopen part of its Trenton North engine plant in Detroit's southern suburbs, creating about 270 jobs.

TRENTON, Mich. (AP) -- Chrysler says it plans to spend $114 million to reopen part of its Trenton North engine plant in Detroit's southern suburbs, creating about 270 jobs.

Chrysler Group LLC closed the 59-year-old plant in May. The company started to build the new Pentastar engine at its new Trenton South engine plant in 2010.

Chrysler spokeswoman Jodi Tinson tells the Detroit Free Press the automaker will use part of the old plant to produce engine parts, including camshafts for the company's Pentastar engine.

Tinson tells The Detroit News that Chrysler will use about 400,000 square feet of the 2 million-square-foot plant.

On Monday, the Trenton City Council voted 7-0 to approve a 50 percent personal property tax abatement for the plant for up to 12 years.
