Be Green Packaging says it is investing $7 million in Jasper County to open a plant that will create at least 175 jobs.

RIDGELAND, S.C. (AP) -- A packaging company says it is investing $7 million in Jasper County to open a plant creating at least 175 jobs.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports Friday that Be Green Packaging LLC will make the investment over five years at a plant near Ridgeland.

The company makes packaging for customers like Whole Foods and Gillette. It's planning to occupy a building where mobile homes were once made.

The new manufacturing and distribution facility is expected to open early next year. The company says it is planning to import goods through the Port of Charleston for distribution throughout the United States.

Be Green says it has been manufacturing goods in China and distributing them via Boston. The company is based in Santa Barbara, Calif.
