ERIE, Pa. (AP) -- Seventy-seven workers at the Troyer Farms potato chip plant near Erie are being permanently laid off as the company's new owner prepares to move the business across the state to York.
The Erie Times-News is reporting that York-based Bickel's Snack Foods Inc. has told the state Department of Labor and Industry that it plans to move its Waterford Township potato chip operation to York in March.
Bickel's bought the Troyer potato chip plant in December 2008.
Troyer Farms opened in 1967 and also makes tortilla chips, popcorn, pretzels and other snacks. The company has about 350 workers at facilities in Waterford and Canonsburg, a town about 15 miles south of Pittsburgh.
