MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Harley-Davidson could cut hundreds of jobs at its engine factory in Menomonee Falls, even if union members give the motorcycle maker the concessions it says it needs to remain competitive.
The proposed contract given to union workers for consideration cuts 200 jobs by the end of 2012. But, employees tell the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the proposed contract contains language that sets no minimum or maximum number of jobs cuts.
Union members say their leadership told them at an informational meeting in Waukesha Tuesday that about half of the 1,100 production jobs in the Milwaukee area could be eliminated.
Harley workers in Tomahawk are getting details of their proposed contract Wednesday. A contract vote by all production employees is scheduled Sept. 13.
