SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. (CP) -- United Steelworkers in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., have ratified a new collective agreement with Essar Steel Algoma Inc.
USW Local 2251 says 83 percent of members who voted approved the tentative agreement reached on July 21.
The three-year agreement includes wage and cost-of-living increases, as well as improvements in pensions and benefits for about 2,600 hourly workers.
The agreement was reached and ratified before the current contract expired at the end of this month.
The company calls the agreement fair to employees while recognizing the realities of the steel market.
Essar Steel Algoma manufactures hot and cold rolled steel products including sheet and plate.
