Simonton Windows Plant Recalls 200 Workers

Commerce Department says energy tax credits included in government’s stimulus package made it possible for Simonton to put laid-off workers back on the job.

ELLENBORO, W.Va. (AP) -- The U.S. Commerce Secretary, Sen. Jay Rockefeller and Gov. Joe Manchin are scheduled to make a joint appearance at Simonton Windows.

The Commerce Department says Friday's event is being held to show how President Obama's administration is helping create jobs. Simonton is recalling more than 200 employees to the Ellenboro windows operation.

Commerce says energy tax credits included in the administration's $787 billion stimulus package and Simonton's own actions made it possible to put laid-off workers back on the job.

Simonton is a subsidiary of Deerfield, Ill.-based Fortune Brands Inc.
