UNION CITY, Tenn. (AP) -- Union members in Union City are asking everyone in the community to write to President Barack Obama asking him to support legislation that would reduce tire imports from China.
Mike McKenzie, the Jackson/West Tennessee area coordinator for the Tennessee AFL-CIO Labor Council, said the legislation could result in increased production at North American tire companies such as the Goodyear plant in Union City.
According to the Union City Daily Messenger, union officials said the case is about all workers who have lost jobs or are threatened with job loss because of import surges from China.
The Union City plant is under the threat of closure.
