Fleetwood Indiana RV Plant Hiring 650

New owner of Fleetwood RV Inc., recreation vehicle maker is hiring about 650 people for its Decatur plant, although former workers are not guaranteed to be rehired.

DECATUR, Ind. (AP) -- The new owner of a northeastern Indiana recreation vehicle maker is hiring about 650 people for its Decatur plant, although former workers are not guaranteed to be rehired.

A New York-based capital fund says it completed its $33 million purchase of Fleetwood Enterprises Inc. last week. The renamed Fleetwood RV Inc. has already accepted more than 1,000 applications at its plant in the city about 20 miles south of Fort Wayne.

Company President John Draheim says Fleetwood expects to employ about 650 people by next month. He says former workers who accept positions with the new company will be paid about 10 percent less than before.

Fleetwood's Decatur operations employed more than 1,000 people in early 2008. The company cut 550 jobs in Decatur last year.
