Goodyear Workers Take Buyout

UNION CITY, Tenn. (AP) -- The Goodyear Tire & Rubber plant in Union City is giving out buyout checks through Friday to 550 employees.

The 550 are part of a plant-wide buyout agreement between Goodyear and United Steel Workers Local 878.

According to the Union City Daily Messenger, most of the 550 will cease their employment this week, but some will stay on for a few months to provide training for others.

The 40-year-old plant employed some 2,700 before the buyouts.
