North Carolina Dell Plant Recalls Workers

Dell Inc. says it will recall about 150 laid-off workers for temporary duty at a North Carolina computer plant.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) -- Dell Inc. says it will recall some laid-off workers for temporary duty at a North Carolina computer plant.

The Winston-Salem Journal reported Thursday that Mayor Allen Joines said the company told city officials about 150 people could be recalled to the Forsyth County plant starting Monday.

The newspaper says Dell has an estimated 1,140 workers, down from the 1,400 it employed in January. Dell has laid off 260 people at the plant since May.

Dell opened the desktop computer assembly plant in 2005 and was offered an incentives package valued at $305 million if it meets hiring and investment goals.
