CHATHAM, Ontario (AP) -- Hundreds of employees at the Navistar truck plant in Chatham have been handed layoff notices.
The layoffs affect 470 employees, including plant workers, office staff and management.
The job cuts start Jan. 31 and will leave about 400 employees at the plant 35 miles east of Detroit.
Canadian Auto Workers Union representative Joe McCabe says a soft truck market is to blame. Union officials hope the market improves over the next 12 weeks to lower the number of job cuts.
