TORONTO (AP) -- Canada's unemployment rate rose to 8.6 percent in October from 8.4 percent a month earlier as the economy shed 43,200 jobs, the government said Friday.
The decline in jobs follows two months of moderate growth. Economists had been expecting a 10,000 gain in October.
Statistics Canada said Friday that the job decline reflects the loss of 60,000 part-time jobs. Full-time employment increased slightly.
The agency said that employment is now down 400,000 jobs, or 2.3 percent, since a year ago.
