Parts Shortage Sends Chrysler Canada Workers Home

Chrysler workers at minivan assembly plant in Windsor, Ont., were sent home Tuesday night and again this morning because of a parts shortage.

WINDSOR, Ont. (CP) -- Chrysler workers at the minivan assembly plant in Windsor, Ont., were sent home Tuesday night and again this morning because of a parts shortage.

The shortage is due to an interruption in supplies from manufacturer H.E. Vannatter in Wallaceburg, Ont., where workers have been locked out since Monday.

Sources familiar with the company's operations say Chrysler is planning to begin building the parts in-house at its casting plant in west Toronto.

CAW Local 444 president Rick Laporte says Chrysler is optimistic it will have enough parts for the 3 p.m. afternoon shift.
