ROUSES POINT, N.Y. (AP) -- A New Jersey-based drug maker is laying off more than 100 employees at the northern New York plant it has sold to another pharmaceutical company.
Officials at Wyeth's plant in Rouses Point, on the Canadian border, said Tuesday 118 workers will be laid off in January because of declining demand for the drugs produced there.
The company currently has 725 employees at Rouses Point.
Wyeth is also eliminating 71 jobs at its facility in Pearl River in Rockland County.
Earlier this year Wyeth closed on a deal to sell the Rouses Point plant to Akrimax Manufacturing. Wyeth continues to lease space from Akrimax until it ceases operations at the end of 2009.
Akrimax officials say the company will try to restore the jobs when it takes ownership of the plant on Jan. 1, 2010.
