UAW Members At 3 American Axle Plants Approve Deal

Workers struck Feb. 26 over company demands for deep concessions; tentative contract contains cuts that are somewhat less severe.

DETROIT (AP) -- Striking United Auto Workers members at three American Axle and Manufacturing Holdings Inc. plants have endorsed a tentative contract.

Workers struck Feb. 26 over company demands for deep concessions. The deal contains cuts that are somewhat less severe.

UAW Region 9 Assistant Director Kevin Donovan tells The Buffalo News 81 percent of workers voting Monday at two New York plants voted yes. The agreement would close a plant in Tonawanda but spare one in Cheektowaga. They have about 600 UAW workers.

UAW Local 2093 bargaining chairman David Morris at a Three Rivers, Mich. plant with 790 workers tells the Kalamazoo Gazette members endorsed the deal Monday.

Voting by 3,650 workers ends Thursday with balloting at UAW Local 235 in Hamtramck.
