Dairy Workers Agree To Contract Talks

Wells’ Dairy workers voted to take another look at the current contract with the Le Mars, Iowa-based ice cream maker.

LE MARS, Iowa (AP) β€” Contract talks between Wells' Dairy Inc. and an employee committee could begin soon.

Workers voted on Monday and Tuesday to take another look at the current contract with the Le Mars-based ice cream maker. The vote was 574 in favor and 560 against.
More than 1,500 hourly workers are represented by the United Dairy workers, an employee bargaining committee.

Wells' Dairy, which makes blue Bunny ice cream and frozen novelties, wants to cut $5 million in employee pay and perks as part of a move to control costs to meet the company's financial goals.

The current three-year contract is to expire at the end of December.
