2,400 GM Workers Going Back To Work

Workers were laid off last spring while the former Saturn plant was retooled and renovated to build a new Chevrolet crossover model.

SPRING HILL, Tenn. (AP) — About 2,400 workers at the General Motors plant in Spring Hill will return to work for about three weeks starting on Monday.

The workers have been laid off since last spring while the former Saturn plant is retooled and renovated to build a new Chevrolet crossover model.

The workers go back on Monday to begin training and job selection for the new product.

About 1,200 workers have stayed on the job making other GM engines and replacement parts for Saturns.

Bringing the new vehicle to the plant about 30 miles south of Nashville was part of a new labor agreement reached between the automaker and the United Auto Workers.
