MasterBrand Shutters Indiana Plant, 275 Jobs Lost

Cabinet maker says it tried to adjust its production schedules, but could not keep the plant in operation because of ‘marketplace conditions.’

RICHMOND, Ind. (AP) -- MasterBrand Cabinets Inc. is cutting about 275 jobs as it stops manufacturing at its Richmond plant, effective immediately.

The company said Tuesday that production, maintenance and management employees at the plant will receive pay and benefits for the next 60 days.

MasterBrand President Greg Stoner says the company tried to adjust its production schedules, but could not keep the plant in operation because of "marketplace conditions."

MasterBrand's customer service operations, also located in Richmond, are not affected by the closure.

In June, the company announced that it was rehiring 260 positions at its plant in the southern Indiana city of Jasper that were cut earlier in the year because of slumping sales.
