GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) -- A packaging plant in Greensboro is closing, laying off nearly 100 workers.
Graphic Packaging International of Marietta, Ga., is closing several folding carton centers.
The News & Record of Greensboro reported Wednesday that the first layoffs will occur in early October and continue through the end of the year.
Corporate communications director Lois Becton says salaried workers will get severance packages according to company policies and union workers will get benefits after the company talks with the union.
The 78 hourly employees are members of the Graphic Communications/Teamsters.
The company is also closing plants in Virginia and Tennessee.
The closings come after a merger between Graphic Packaging and Altivity Packaging.
