Latrobe Specialty Steel Workers Agree On Contract

Labor dispute that began May 1 at Latrobe Specialty Steel is ending now that workers have narrowly approved a contract.

LATROBE, Pa. (AP) -- The labor dispute at Latrobe Specialty Steel is ending now that workers have narrowly approved a contract.

Members of United Steelworkers Local 1537 voted 159-151 on Sunday in favor of the new five-year contract.

Some 360 workers went on strike May 1 and were locked out of their jobs since May 9.

The firm makes steel used in the aerospace and defense industries and metal for the U.S. Mint. The plant had been operating with temporary workers.
