Cardinal Health Eliminating 600 Jobs

Health care products and services company says the restructuring efforts will save money and make the company more efficient.

DUBLIN, Ohio (AP) -- Health care products and services company Cardinal Health Inc. says it will cut 600 jobs as it streamlines its business into two primary segments.

Cardinal says the restructuring announced Tuesday will group its units into a Healthcare Supply Chain Services segment and a Clinical and Medical Products segment.

Chairman and CEO R. Kerry Clark says the changes will save money and make the company more efficient.

Cardinal says the job cuts will include 160 positions that are currently open and will not be filled. Employees whose jobs are eliminated will be offered severance benefits.

The company says it will take a $63 million dollar charge against earnings to pay for the restructuring.

Cardinal Health is based in the Columbus suburb of Dublin.
