Electrician Accused Of Stealing $72,000 From Factory

Anonymous tip about a suspicious eBay auction item is credited with leading to an employee suspected of taking items from the fire engine factory where he worked.

MENASHA, Wis. (AP) -- An anonymous tip about a suspicious eBay auction item is credited with leading to an electrician suspected of taking $72,000 worth of items from the fire engine factory where he worked.

Detective Chris Anderson of the town of Menasha police says Pierce Manufacturing Inc. got the e-mail pointing the company to the eBay auction item. Pierce did an internal investigation, confirmed the item belonged to the company and called police.

Anderson says a search of the man's home found 48 more items from the company, and additional investigation found another 189, mostly electronics and lighting systems.

Anderson says the 35-year-old Hortonville man admitted taking the items over the past four years and has been fired.

Police are recommending the Winnebago County district attorney file a felony theft charge.
