Goodyear Closing Collingwood, Ont., Hose Plant

Mayor Chris Carrier confirmed the closure at a council meeting Monday night, but did not announce a timetable.

COLLINGWOOD, Ont. (CP) - Goodyear will close its plant in Collingwood, Ont., eliminating 165 jobs.

Mayor Chris Carrier confirmed the closure at a council meeting Monday night, but did not announce a timetable.

He said 138 hourly employees and 27 salaried staff will be affected.

The Collingwood hose manufacturing plant was purchased by the U.S-based Carlyle group in March at the end of a bitter three-month strike. The closure had been rumored since the walkout ended.

Carrier's announcement follows recent word that Collingwood's Alcoa plant, which employs 330 people, is also slated to close soon.
