NAM Offers Guide To Purchasing Value-Driven Health Care

Guide helps manufacturers meet U.S. Department of Health & Human Services' “four cornerstones of value-driven health care."

The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) unveiled Thursday “The Purchaser Guide to Value-driven Health Care,” designed to help employers make value-driven health care a priority in purchasing health care services for employees.

It provides strategies that employers can implement to meet U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) Secretary Michael Leavitt’s call for the “four cornerstones of value-driven health care:” utilize health information technology, measure and publish quality information, measure and publish price information, and create positive incentives for high-quality, efficient health care.

The guide is part of NAM's collaboration with the Partnership for Value-driven Health Care, formed in 2006. Along with the NAM, the Partnership's members include: American Benefits Council, Bridges to Excellence, Corporate Health Care Coalition, The ERISA Industry Committee, HR Policy, The Leapfrog Group, National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors, National Business Coalition on Health, National Business Group on Health, National Federation of Independent Businesses, National Retail Federation, Society for Human Resource Management, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
