When SpaceX attempted to land its booster rocket things didn't appear to go as planned. When the booster rocket was attempting to land on a floating ocean barge, a feat yet to be accomplished, the rocket exploded, and interested viewers can see it all as SpaceX has released the footage. The photo below shows the explosion caused by the rocket.
This touchdown is part of the Southern California company's quest to launch reusable rockets in order to lower costs of aerospace ventures. SpaceX founder Elon Musk did not seem to discourage by the unsuccessful landing, he tweeted, "Close, but no cigar this time." He also later explained that the rockets legs and engine had been smashed during the landing.
