The longtime CEO of Kulicke & Soffa Industries Inc. will retire in late September, the company that provides manufacturing equipment for chip makers said Friday.

C. Scott Kulicke, who is also president and a member of the board, will be replaced by Bruno Guilmart.

Kulicke has led the company since 1979. He announced late last year he planned to retire before June 2011.

Guilmart, who will also replace Kulicke on the board of directors, has worked as the CEOs of Lattice Semiconductor, the Unisem group and Advanced Interconnect Technologies.

He will be based in Singapore, where most of Kulicke & Soffa's operations are centered.

MacDonell Roehm will remain the company's non-executive chairman.

Kulicke & Soffa shares fell 82 cents, or 10.8 percent, to $6.80 in trading Friday.
