Multi-Fineline Electronix Leases Malaysian Plant

Contract electronics manufacturer said that it would move some assembly operations from California and Suzhou, China, to a new plant in Malaysia.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Contract electronics manufacturer Multi-Fineline Electronix Inc. said Wednesday that it would move some assembly operations from Anaheim and Suzhou, China, to a new plant in Malaysia.

Mflex is leasing the plant from WBL Corp., which is its largest shareholder. It will take over 125 employees at the factory from Wearnes Electronics Malaysia, a WBL subsidiary.

The factory will take over a "high-mix/low-volume" operation that deals with low production runs of many different models.

"While this comprises a very small portion of our overall business today, we see strong growth potential and opportunities to expand into new markets in the future," said Reza Meshgin, Mflex's president and chief executive officer.
