Campbell's Soup Laying Off 326 in Georgia

Decreasing consumer demand means the plant will close.

Campbell's Soup has announced plans to close its snack food plant in Columbus, Georgia, in 2022.

According to the company, 326 workers will lose their jobs.

The company recently reviewed its snack manufacturing operations, and decreasing consumer demand ultimately led to the closure.

The plant makes candy, cookies, crackers, nuts and snack bars. Some production will be shifted to other plants.

The facility has been in operation for 94 years, which made it a cornerstone of the community. Unfortunately, that also made it difficult to upgrade.

The closure will happen in phases. Workers will receive severance packages and assistance finding new jobs.
