Aluminum Shapes Fined Again After Worker Crushes Foot

The company has a history with OSHA.

In August 2019, a crane operator at Aluminum Shapes was hospitalized after a steel plate crushed his foot. The plate fell from an uninspected crane at the aluminum manufacturer’s foundry in New Jersey.

This week, OSHA hit the company with $169,524 in penalties for workplace safety violations.

Aluminum Shapes has a history with OSHA.

In July 2017, the company was hit with $1.9 million in penalties after OSHA found 51 health and safety violationsEmployees were told to return to work with chemical burns and one employee suffered a broken pelvis.

After the fine, Aluminum Shapes laid off 51 union employees and 10 office workers. The company said OSHA's fine forced it to take "extreme measures."

Aluminum Shapes has now been placed in OSHA’s Severe Violator Enforcement Program for repeated safety failures.

In 2016, the company was accused of participating in a tariff evasion scheme that works by disguising metal as shipping pallets that are then re-melted for other uses.
