Now available with a stainless steel housing, the Model RS drive nuts provide smooth backlash-free linear motion in food processing machine design. Unlike a screw, the RS drive nut runs on a smooth shaft. This eliminates the potential for food particles and other debris to become trapped in threads which could clog or jam a screw. If material does fall onto the shaft, it either falls off or is easily removed by wiping the shaft with a clean cloth. A further benefit of the threadless shaft is that with the elimination of downtime required for cleaning threads, the RS nut enables more consistent production rates.

Customers may specify special sealing procedures for the RS nut housing if desired, or if sealing is required for meeting regulatory standards. Sealing the RS nut helps maintain a sanitary operating environment by preventing food particles from entering the housing where particles might foul bearings or decompose and cause health and safety issues.

To further enhance clean operation, the nut may be fitted with shaft scrapers which continually wipe the shaft clean as the nut moves back and forth. Grease fittings may also be installed which then may be pre-packed with customer-specified food grade grease. The grease fittings are compatible with most grease guns for refilling. Once packed with the desired food grade grease, the RS nut is sealed at the factory to prevent lubricant from contacting processed goods after the nut is installed in machinery and in use.

RS linear drive nuts offer axial thrust from 22 to 449 pounds. The drive operates on the rolling ring engineering principle which produces linear motion from a rotating shaft while assuring no play or backlash during movement of the drive nut. Available in ten sizes to meet varying payload and thrust requirements, the RS drive nut is suitable for vertical or horizontal travel. Each of the ten sizes is available in five different linear pitch settings. Shaft rotational speeds may be up to 10,000 rpm depending on the size of the drive. Linear travel speed ranges from 0.5 ft./sec. up to 4.0 ft./sec. depending on the size of the drive and also on the weight of the payload.
