3M Co. Settles A Pair Of Patent Lawsuits

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Diversified products maker 3M Co. said Tuesday it settled a patent case in Canada and received a favorable ruling in a separate case in China.

The St. Paul company settled a lawsuit against Eurotex in Canada for infringing on a 3M patent related to reflective fire coat trim. It said Eurotex consented to an order entered by a federal court that involved an injunction and payment for past profits. A statement from 3M did not detail the payment.

3M's product portfolio also includes Scotch Tape, stethoscopes and Post-it notes among many other items.

The company also said that a Chinese court ruled in April that Zhejiang Daoming Reflective Materials Co. infringed on a 3M patent in that country. The court ordered the company to pay damages and stop making and selling materials that infringe on the patent.

The company has appealed the ruling, and enforcement of that judgment is suspended during the appeal.

Shares of 3M climbed $1.29 to $92.59 in Tuesday trading.
