Engineers from Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial Systems Engineering (ISE) recently presented NC State Chancellor Randy Woodson with a very unique gift — a titanium football manufactured by advanced 3D printing technology.

The football was created by Professor Tim Horn in ISE’s Center for Additive Manufacturing Logistics and is made up of the same medical-grade titanium that was used to make the NC State coin that recently traveled on NASA’s Orion space flight. The football proudly displays the NC State logo and took 24 hours to print.

The football has found a home in Chancellor Woodson’s office, where it will be displayed alongside three other real footballs presented for various honors.
