FORT EDWARD, N.Y. (AP) -- The union representing workers at an upstate New York General Electric plant slated for closure says the company has rejected its concessions.
Local media outlets report that leaders of the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers Local 332 held a news conference Sunday to announce that GE had rejected the union's offer to cut 10 percent of the workforce at the plant in Fort Edward, 45 miles north of Albany.
Fairfield, Conn.-based GE announced in September that it planned to shut down the plant and shift the work to Clearwater, Fla. The Fort Edward plant employs about 200 people, including nearly 180 union members.
A GE spokeswoman says the union's concessions fell short of achieving the savings and efficiencies the company says it will gain with the move to Florida.
